Long Neck or Short Neck: Which to Specify

The long neck is a stainless steel extension between the valve body and the lever, gearbox or actuator. On chilled-water and other cold lines it limits heat transfer along the neck, so condensation on the operator is kept to a minimum and the operator does not need its own insulation. That is why the long neck is the usual choice for HVAC chilled-water service, and it is the only version offered in ASME Class 150 and PN16.

KITZ backs this with its own laboratory test: long-neck G-10XJMEA valves carrying +5°C cold water, with 50 mm of glass-wool insulation around the valve and the gearbox left in open air, were checked across ambient temperatures of +20°C to +40°C to map where condensation forms on the gearbox. The results are published as a dew-condensation chart in the XJ catalogue; if your plant room runs hot and humid, send us the conditions and we’ll check them against it.

The short neck is a more compact JIS 10K option for water and air lines where condensation on the operator is not a concern. Both necks carry an ISO 5211 pad, so actuators can be fitted on site.
